Silvia Lungu, a 64-year-old Romanian woman who was reported missing on September 11 on the Greek island of Zakynthos, was found dead on Sunday, September 27, in an olive grove in Ano Gerakario. The woman’s body was discovered by a local resident carrying out agricultural work, who immediately alerted the police.
The woman had been staying alone at a hotel in the Alykanas area. She was last seen on a surveillance camera in the center of the town, approximately three kilometers from where her body was found.
Following her disappearance, police officers, firefighters, and Civil Protection teams carried out extensive search operations. Drones, EMAK crews with a specially trained dog, as well as inflatable boats and divers took part in the operation, as there is a river nearby.
According to the initial information provided by the Greek police, the possibility of a crime has been ruled out. The woman’s body will be transported to Patras for an autopsy and to establish the exact cause of death. Authorities are continuing their checks to clarify all the circumstances.
