Depending on the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Croatia, Romania currently has 1,422 km of highways. Under construction are another 832.2 km, which will be completed in the next 3-4 years, bringing the total to 2,255 km. This will improve Romania's position in European rankings, surpassing countries like Sweden and Hungary by 2029, depending on future constructions.

The director of CNAIR, Cristian Pistol, estimated that in the next five years, 1,752.82 km will be completed, which could lead to a total of 2,825 km, more than the Netherlands and Greece. Although Romania has a density of 6 km of highway per 1,000 km², Bucharest approaches 80 km/1,000 km². In 2026-2027, the inauguration of important sections is anticipated, but their realization depends on the adherence to contracts and political decisions.
