The Railway Reform Authority has announced that the first newly built electric locomotive, part of a 767 million lei contract, has reached the speed of 200 km/h at the test center in Făurei. These locomotives, produced by Alstom, will be able to pull passenger trains at a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The Romanian rail fleet has an average age of more than 45 years, and the delivery of the entire batch is expected by August 2026. The locomotives will run on several major routes in the country.
