Romania has become a member of ELIXIR, a European strategic network for research, announced by Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. The accession, formalized by Law no. 128/2026, will provide the scientific community with extensive access to data networks and international expertise. The rector of UBB, Daniel David, emphasized the importance of this initiative, mentioning his role as a former Minister of Education in initiating it.
The accession is significant for the university's activity, especially for the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Health, which aligns with the UBBMed strategic program. ELIXIR integrates biological data and essential computational resources for research in life sciences and health.
The Romanian Bioinformatics Cluster has been essential in facilitating collaboration between Romanian institutions and European structures, contributing to the preparation for accession. Romania's participation in ELIXIR will open new opportunities for research and the training of specialists.
