As part of the Profit.ro Marathon – The Infrastructure that Connects Romania, Robert Răzvan Dobre, director in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, discussed plans for a high-speed train network in Romania. The project, which is expected to link the Black Sea area to the European railway network, anticipates the construction of approximately 780 km of new railway, with an estimated cost of 18 billion euros.

Dobre acknowledged that the discussion is met with skepticism, considering that the current infrastructure does not allow for high speeds, with restrictions of up to 30 km/h on certain sections. So far, the plan is at the feasibility study level, and the initial analysis suggests that there are enough passengers who could financially support such a system.
