Regional Director General Marshall Fund: strategic transformations of Romania's National Security in 2026

During the launch conference of the National Security Barometer 2026, Sergiu Panainte, regional director of the General Marshall Fund, highlighted the strategic transformations that Romania is undergoing. He emphasized that, if managed responsibly, this moment can significantly strengthen the country's position in the European security architecture.

The defense budget allocated for this year is historic, and the 21 armament projects through the European SAFE mechanism, with an allocation of over 16 billion euros, place Romania among the countries with the highest commitment to European rearmament. Panainte pointed out that these projects are not limited to equipment purchases but aim at investments in national production capacity, which will enhance the country's security.
