According to an analysis published by ISTAT, only 17.8% of Romanians aged between 16 and 74 used artificial intelligence tools in 2022, the lowest percentage in the European Union, compared to the average of 32.7%.

Italy, with a usage level of 19.9%, is also below the European average. This situation is influenced by the aging population, with Romania having a median age of 44.5 years, and Italy 48.7 years, which contributes to a slower adoption of new technologies. Almost 10% of Italians have not used the internet in the last three months, and Romania faces a greater gap in digital skills.

The low use of artificial intelligence reflects difficulties in adopting innovations and suggests the need for improvement in digital education and the digitization of public services. These factors highlight the common challenges both countries face in integrating advanced technologies into everyday life.
