The Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, announced that the first evaluation of Romania as a Schengen state confirms the effective implementation of the Schengen acquis.

Romania has been assessed as a Schengen state with full rights, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, emphasized the professional profile of the country in this context. During a meeting with a delegation from the European Commission, led by Olivier Onidi, the progress of Romania in implementing the Schengen acquis was discussed.

Onidi appreciated the constructive attitude of the Romanian authorities and highlighted the good practices identified, such as the Schengen Governance mechanism. Predoiu acknowledged the challenges related to the shortage of human resources and emphasized Romania's commitment to improving the use of European funds. Additionally, the implementation of the Migration and Asylum Pact, essential for the effective functioning of the Schengen area, was discussed. The European Commission reiterated its support for Romania in this process.
