Dumitru Chisăliță, the president of the Intelligent Energy Association, emphasizes that the kerosene deficit in the European Union, caused by dependence on imports and imbalances in the supply chain, offers Romania a strategic opportunity to reaffirm its role in regional energy security.
Despite the current crisis, Romania risks losing this chance again by focusing exclusively on increasing diesel production for the domestic market. Chisăliță suggests that it would be more beneficial to also orient towards kerosene production for aviation, considering that Europe is facing a refined kerosene crisis. Additionally, the director of the International Energy Agency has warned that Europe has only a few weeks of fuel for airplanes left, which could lead to price increases and flight cancellations.
In this context, Romania could become a vital hub for Southeast Europe, but it must act with determination and strategy to avoid being overlooked in European energy decisions.
