A Romanian on vacation in the Canary Islands drowned on his birthday while venturing into the big waves on a beach in Lanzarote, popular among surfers. The incident occurred in the presence of two friends, an Indian and a German. The three entered the water but quickly disappeared from sight, prompting other tourists to call 112. The German managed to swim back to the beach, but the Romanian did not survive. Rescuers intervened but were unable to revive him. The Indian tourist is still being searched for by rescue teams.
