On Tuesday, a 47-year-old man died after falling 250-300 meters in the ridge area of Piatra Craiului while on a hike with his brother, his 12-year-old nephew, and a friend.
The emergency call was made around 2:15 PM, and the Zărnești Mountain Rescue teams quickly intervened to locate the victim.
The rescuers requested air support for identification and evacuation. Unfortunately, upon the arrival of the crew, the man was already deceased.
This is the fifth similar tragedy in the Southern Carpathians in the last 10 days. Rescuer Ciprian Lolu emphasized that the victim was not wearing appropriate protective equipment, such as a helmet or crampons, and expressed compassion for the grieving family, considering that the accident occurred in the presence of his nephew.
