On Sunday, two teams made up of 15 mountain rescuers managed to recover the bodies of two tourists from Ploiești, who died on Saturday after sliding hundreds of meters on the Netedu Peak in the Făgăraș Mountains. The recovery operation was complicated by unfavorable weather conditions, with snow and overcast weather. The bodies were transported along the valley, from where a SMURD helicopter picked them up to transport them to the base of the mountain.
A third tourist, also from Ploiești, survived the accident and was rescued on Saturday by helicopter, having a stable health condition.
The director of Salvamont Sibiu, Dan Popescu, mentioned that the tourists were not properly equipped for the winter conditions in the area.
