MEP Rareș Bogdan launched a harsh attack on social media against the president of PNL, Ilie Bolojan, right during the party's Congress. Bogdan called Bolojan "an incompetent but aggressive joker" and accused him of "killing PNL with good knowledge" and of having poorly managed the country's economy in the last year, a period marked by five quarters of declining consumption and the closure of over 100,000 Romanian firms. The MEP criticized the Prime Minister's focus on micro-management and warned that the macroeconomic decisions being made risk leading Romania towards a financial collapse similar to the Greek model.
Rareș Bogdan's main grievance concerns the proposal of figures like Oana Gheorghiu and Dragoș Pâslaru for the positions of vice-presidents of the party. He accused Bolojan's team of attempting to "USR-ize" the formation and of adhering to the woke ideological movement and cancel culture tactics, which would contradict traditional conservative values, the Christian family, and the doctrine of the European People's Party. Bogdan recalled the past electoral behavior of former USR and REPER members against the liberals, emphasizing that bringing them to the leadership of PNL represents a major political error.
