The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, congratulated Captain Commander Pavelescu Costel-Alexandru for his success in shooting down a drone that entered the airspace of Estonia, during an air policing mission in Lithuania. Miruță emphasized the importance of this success in the global fight against drones, mentioning that the Romanian pilot demonstrated professionalism and determination.
His success was also appreciated by Estonian officials, with the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, sending congratulations to Romania. As a sign of recognition, Miruță proposed awarding the peace envoy emblem, first class, to Commander Pavelescu. The downed drone, of Ukrainian origin, was heading west from Russia, and the mission was carried out by a Romanian F-16 aircraft, part of a NATO mission.
