Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, announced measures following the incident in Galați, where fragments of a Russian drone were found on Romanian territory.

He emphasized that the Defense Staff is analyzing the rearrangement of monitoring and defense devices at the border with Ukraine, following this incident.

“Based on the engine and characteristics, it is a Geran 2 type drone, a new model manufactured in Russia, which flew at low altitude for approximately 4 minutes, over a distance of 15 km, in national airspace,” the minister stated.

Miruță explained that the Romanian Army has the capacity to monitor the airspace, but radar systems for very low altitudes are limited. He mentioned that the incident is being analyzed by military structures and that Romania is working to strengthen its defense capabilities. The minister emphasized collaboration with NATO and EU allies and conveyed that he is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send a firm message to the Russian Federation.
