Minister of National Defence, first reaction after two drones entered Romania’s airspace without authorization: “I am up to date with the developments in the security situation in northeastern Romania / Monitoring and intervention actions are underway”

Minister of National Defence Radu Oprea announced on Saturday evening that he is aware of the situation involving the two drones that entered the national airspace without authorization, in northeastern Romania. The forces and assets assigned to Air Policing combat duty have been activated, and monitoring and intervention operations are underway.

The minister stated that he is in constant contact with the responsible military structures and the other institutions involved in managing the situation. He emphasized that the authorities’ priority is protecting the population and the national airspace.

In the context of the incident, the authorities issued air-raid alerts for the counties of Iași, Neamț, Vaslui, Botoșani, Bacău, and Suceava. So far, no additional information has been provided about the drones’ origin, their trajectory, or any potential damage. The Ministry of National Defence said that the public will be informed as the situation develops.
