One of the two drones monitored by the authorities left the national airspace on Saturday evening, the Ministry of National Defence announced. Following the developments, the air alert ended in the counties of Iași, Neamț, Vaslui, Botoșani, Bacău and Suceava.
Initially, the MND’s radar surveillance system detected an aerial target flying approximately 10 kilometres from Romania’s border with the Republic of Moldova. Subsequently, the ministry reported that a second aerial target had entered the national airspace without authorisation, from the direction of the Republic of Moldova.
The authorities monitored the situation, and the population in the affected counties was warned through the Ro-Alert system. In the cited statement, the MND did not provide details about the type of drones, their exact route, or any possible damage caused on the ground.
The announcement regarding the end of the air alert comes after confirmation that one of the drones had left Romanian airspace. Information about the other aerial target and the measures adopted by the authorities is to be clarified through subsequent communications.
