Over 120 people could be affected by the amendment to the Integrity Law, which provides for the termination of the mandate or loss of position for those for whom there are final court rulings regarding the violation of the regime of incompatibilities or conflicts of interest.
The Constitutional Court of Romania declared constitutional an amendment introduced in the Integrity Law, which stipulates that individuals in a conflict of interest or incompatible situations will lose their public positions.
Among those affected is the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, who has been declared in a conflict of interest by the High Court of Cassation and Justice. Following the sanction, his salary was reduced by 10% for six months.
The amendment, supported by PSD and AUR, stipulates that affected individuals will lose their position 30 days after the law comes into force.
The National Integrity Agency monitors 122 cases of individuals under a three-year ban, of which 75% are declared in a conflict of interest while holding elective positions.
So far, 47 of these continue to hold public positions.
The sanctions applied range from a salary reduction of 5-20% to the absence of any measures.
