The PSD campaign to promote Monday's referendum, "The Moment of Truth", in which the social democrats decide whether to leave the government, has become the target of irony and memes on social media. As a result, the PSD decided to block all comments on their Facebook page.
Several social democratic leaders, including ministers, have posted on social media posters with the message "Enough. Up to here", generating a wave of online jokes. Some memes refer to statements by PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu regarding deratization, while others refer to the famous shoe boxes of PSD close associate Cristian Anton, head of the Romanian Road Authority, in which hundreds of thousands of euros in bribes were found.
The PSD leadership has established a strategy for changing the government, aiming to determine Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to resign by withdrawing political support. If Bolojan does not announce his departure by the Government meeting on April 23, PSD ministers could resign en masse. The referendum will address a question regarding the withdrawal of political support for Bolojan. The Prime Minister stated that he does not intend to resign and that he will continue to exercise his duties responsibly. He also commented on the possibility of a minority government and a potential candidacy in the presidential elections of 2030.
