The High Court of Cassation and Justice decided on Wednesday to maintain the preventive arrest of prosecutors Gigi Valentin Ștefan and Teodor Niță, rejecting their appeals.
The two are being investigated for influence peddling and incitement to abuse of office. Following a proposal to extend the preventive arrest measure, the High Court decided that the defendants must pay 300 lei each in court costs.
Gigi Valentin Ștefan is accused of receiving 60,000 euros to influence a prosecutor to resolve a criminal case favorably, also promising to influence judges. Teodor Niță is suspected of attempting to influence an officer from ISUJ Constanța to avoid legal measures against a company controlled by a close associate.
The preventive arrest remains in effect following these serious accusations.
