The High Court definitively acquitted the former head of Ilfov Child Protection / He allegedly illegally passed the testimony of a minor victim in the case to a rapist’s family

On Monday, the High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively acquitted Bogdan Iulian Pîntea, former head of the Ilfov General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection, and Doina Mănăilă, mayor of the Dascălu commune in Ilfov County, ruling that the acts for which they were convicted are not provided for under criminal law.

The two filed appeals on points of law against the final criminal decision handed down by the Bucharest Court of Appeal on February 25, 2026. Pîntea had been sentenced to one year in prison, suspended, for disclosing secret or non-public official information, while Mănăilă had received a two-year suspended prison sentence for instigating the same offense.

The case concerned the transmission to the family of one of the suspects of a minor's statement. The minor was a rape victim and had been interviewed by specialists from the Directorate for Child Protection. According to G4Media, the Supreme Court admitted the appeals and overturned the convictions.

The decision is final. Following the acquittal, Pîntea could, in theory, return to head DGASPC Ilfov, while Mănăilă can continue her term as mayor.
