Alexandru Mihailiuc, the former chief prosecutor of DIICOT’s Ialomița Territorial Office, was definitively convicted on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, by the High Court of Cassation and Justice in a case concerning the falsification of documents drawn up in the exercise of his duties.
The five-judge panel upheld the sentence of one year in prison and a criminal fine of 80,000 lei for intellectual forgery, false statements and the use of forged documents. Enforcement of the prison sentence was postponed for a two-year supervision period. The ruling is final.
According to the Supreme Court, the acts were committed while Mihailiuc was heading the DIICOT structure in Ialomița. He allegedly induced three witnesses to record untrue information concerning the return of sums of money seized during home searches. He also allegedly drew up three official reports in which he certified circumstances that did not correspond to the truth; the documents were subsequently presented to an oversight commission within the central structure.
Some documents were allegedly backdated to justify the failure to order the measures required by law in a timely manner. The High Court took into account the fact that the offenses were committed in the exercise of judicial office, a circumstance deemed likely to increase their seriousness.
The court also ordered the annulment of the falsified documents, reaffirming magistrates’ obligation to comply with the law and with factual truth in official documents.
