Over 100,000 people have signed a petition for the legal recognition of civil partnerships in Romania, submitted on Wednesday in Parliament. The movement, initiated by the MozaiQ Association and activist Aluziva (Alina Greavu), calls for the urgent adoption of laws that would provide rights to unmarried couples, similar to those of spouses.

The campaign initiators emphasize that legalizing civil partnerships would ensure recognition for hundreds of thousands of couples and provide access to rights such as inheritance, survivor's pension, and medical decisions. Vlad Viski, president of the MozaiQ Association, stated that the mobilization has exceeded expectations, and the political class can no longer ignore this issue.

The campaign is supported by hundreds of public figures and is backed by court decisions that require the Romanian state to recognize unmarried couples. However, the legislative projects are currently blocked in the Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, with Romania being one of the last countries in the EU that does not recognize civil partnerships.
