Oana Țoiu: Romania has demonstrated firmness by downing the drone from Buzău and is ready to take diplomatic action.

The interim Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Romania has demonstrated firmness in defending its sovereignty through the downing of an intruding drone in Buzău. He emphasized that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, there have been over a hundred incursions of drones into European airspace, and Romanian pilots have been involved in two of the three cases of drone downing on European territory. He thanked the Romanian Army and the pilots for their successful intervention.

Romania has already informed its allies about the incident and has discussed it with the foreign ministers of the EU, including the Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani. Authorities are analyzing the wreckage of the downed drone, and the conclusions will be communicated to allies and European institutions.

In the event that the Russian origin of the drone is confirmed, Romania will act firmly on the diplomatic front. He mentioned that any decision regarding the request for consultations under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty will be publicly announced.
