On International Press Freedom Day, Oana Zoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that correct information is essential for the functioning of democracy, emphasizing that journalists must have the freedom to practice their profession.


She highlighted the pressures exerted on the press and its role in combating corruption, mentioning that civil society and the press must exert constant pressure on politicians to ensure democratic governance. Zoiu also discussed the need to protect journalists, referring to measures against abusive lawsuits (SLAPP) that intimidate them. She emphasized the successes of investigative journalism in exposing corruption and stated that these efforts must continue to maintain democracy.
