President of Romania Nicusor Dan and Mirabela Grădinaru laid flowers on Sunday at the 9/11 Memorial in New York in memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In a message posted on the X platform, the head of state said he had paid tribute to all those who lost their lives that day, including Romanian citizens who never returned home. “We remember their lives. We honor their memory. We will never forget them,” Nicusor Dan wrote.

The president also highlighted the solidarity between Romania and the United States. He said that Romania stood by its American ally after the terrorist attacks and would continue to support the United States in the fight against terrorism.

The visit to the 9/11 Memorial takes place in the context of Nicusor Dan’s trip to New York, where he is attending the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Leaders and representatives of member states are attending the meeting, where they are discussing the main international issues. The September 11, 2001 attacks targeted the World Trade Center in New York and other sites in the United States.
