The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, participated in a European Council meeting in Brussels, in the context of an internal political crisis, following the nomination of the liberal Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister.
During the meeting, Nicușor Dan announced that several states, including the USA and France, have offered equipment for the defense of Romania against drones. He also emphasized the importance of a common position among the 16 European states in discussions about the EU budget, calling for substantial allocations for cohesion and agriculture.
In response to questions about AUR's votes for the Veștea government, Nicușor Dan stated that it is the prime minister's responsibility to form a majority, emphasizing that he has appointed a prime minister capable of resolving the crisis. He advocated for supporting Ukraine and Moldova in the EU accession process and called for a united European approach in the face of Russian aggression.
Nicușor Dan highlighted the need for an ambitious budget for the period 2028-2034 and stressed the importance of an effective cohesion policy.
