Nicușor Dan, the mayor of the Capital, was present today at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, where he was heard in a civil case brought by a real estate developer. The dispute has roots in the period when Dan was a civic activist and vice president of the Save Bucharest Association, getting involved in contesting urban planning and building permits in the Văcărești Delta area.
The developer is seeking damages of one million euros, accusing Dan's actions and those of NGOs of abuses and bad faith, which allegedly affected his project. In the first instance, the Tribunal ruled in favor of the defendants, but the developer contested the decision, bringing the case to the Court of Appeal.
Nicușor Dan stated that he did not act abusively and described the project as harmful. The hearing was accompanied by additional security measures, and press access was restricted. The judges will soon decide on the case.
