Nicușor Constantinescu, former president of the Constanța County Council, requested the Bucharest Court of Appeal to suspend the execution of his 10-year prison sentence for a period of 3 months, citing a serious illness that requires nuclear medicine treatments unavailable in Romania.
His lawyers argue that his condition has deteriorated, and delaying treatment could have fatal consequences. The request will be discussed on March 18, 2026, after receiving the opinion from I.N.M.L. Constantinescu was convicted of multiple offenses, and in 2014 he left for the USA for treatment, not returning by the established deadline, which led to his preventive arrest. He also escaped several cases due to the statute of limitations, being required to pay considerable amounts following previous convictions.
