Cătălin Dragomir, a 46-year-old Romanian from Constanța, was sentenced to 56 months in prison in the United States for illegal access to computer networks, including those of a government institution in Oregon. In June 2021, Dragomir gained unauthorized access to a computer in that network and subsequently sold the access, providing samples of personal data extracted from the system.

U.S. authorities estimate that his attacks caused losses of at least $250,000. Dragomir was arrested in Romania in November 2024 and extradited to the U.S. in January 2025, where he pleaded guilty to illegally obtaining information and identity theft.

The case was investigated by the FBI, and the U.S. Department of Justice collaborated with Romanian authorities for his extradition. This conviction is part of a series of measures taken against cybercrime in Eastern Europe.
