Starting from January 1, 2026, carriers crossing the Romanian-Hungarian border through Borș will have to comply with new rules imposed by Hungary. CNAIR has announced that vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons will face restrictions on Main Road 42, in the Berettyóújfalu - Borș I sector. Exceptions will be made for freight vehicles destined for the localities of Biharkeresztes and Artánd, as well as for buses and coaches. In Romania, the restriction will be signaled by special signs on DN1.
Freight transport vehicles exceeding the weight limit will be required to use the M4 motorway, accessible via the A3 motorway, through the Borș II - Nagykereki crossing point. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that, in justified cases, carriers can request a free access permit from the Hungarian road company. Romanian citizens in Hungary can request consular assistance at the embassies and consulates of Romania, and the MFA recommends consulting official websites for updated information.
