In the winter season 2025-2026, which started on November 1 and ended on March 31, the consumption of natural gas in Romania was 6.46 billion cubic meters, a slight decrease compared to the 6.49 billion cubic meters recorded in the previous season, according to Transgaz data. However, consumption was 4% higher than the average of the last three years, influenced by the low temperatures in January.
The quantities extracted from underground storage facilities were 2.36 billion cubic meters, 5.3% lower than the previous cycle, but 17% higher than the average of the last three years. The highest daily consumption was recorded on January 19, 2026, with 63.6 million cubic meters. At the end of the season, the stock in storage was 769.3 million cubic meters, with a filling degree of 24.3%, below the European average of 28.05%. Compared to last year, the stocks were lower, and Romania was below countries like Portugal and Spain, but above Germany and France.
