The National Day of Mountain Rescuers in Romania was officially established in 2024, but the community of mountain rescuers has already been celebrating this day in August, considered 'The Month of Responsibility in the Mountains'.
Every day, the Salvamont teams are prepared to intervene in any conditions, having years of training and exercises behind them. The '-1' campaign aims to reduce the number of mountain accidents, highlighting the importance of choosing an appropriate route and adhering to safety rules.
Over the years, the number of accidents has increased, and in August 2022, 701 people were reported injured. Salvamont Romania, with a tradition of over 122 years, brings together more than 1,100 rescuers and has saved over 75,000 people in the last decade.
The President of the National Association of Mountain Rescuers, Sabin Cornoiu, urges tourists to respect the mountains and to prepare responsibly to avoid emergency interventions.
