USR Deputy, Claudiu Năsui, stated that the minimum wage in Romania should be frozen, arguing that it is used as a fiscal weapon to increase government revenues through taxes. Năsui emphasized that Romania ranks first in Europe in terms of taxing low wages, which leads to a widespread practice of undeclared work, where employees are officially paid the minimum wage, and the rest in cash.
Năsui warned that an increase in the minimum wage would lead to even higher taxes, negatively affecting legal employment. In contrast, the social democrats, through Deputy Marius Budăi, announced the intention to raise the minimum wage in 2026, emphasizing that discussions are no longer focused on the opportunity for an increase, but on the amount of it.
