The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved a new agreement with Romania for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the border road bridge over the Prut, between the localities of Ungheni.

The project is part of the connection to the Unification Highway A8 and will mark the construction of the first kilometers of highway in the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure, Vladimir Bolea, emphasized the importance of this project, considering it essential for connectivity between the two countries in the last six decades. The recent agreement replaces a document signed in 2022 and addresses the needs that arose during the implementation of the project, expanding investments and opportunities for European funding.

The project will improve the connection of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union, reduce border crossing time, and stimulate trade and economic development in the Ungheni region. The memorandum for coordinating the implementation will be signed in Bucharest.
