Officers from the Criminal Investigation Service and the Special Operations Bureau of the Timiș Police Inspectorate arrested on Tuesday morning two members of the Cârpaci family, following an operation carried out in Caransebeș, Caraș-Severin County. They, Gradu Cârpaci, known as "the Minister of Finance," and his wife, are wanted in Romania and Germany for slavery and organ trafficking. During their time living in Munich, the two isolated a man brought from Romania, confiscating his documents. Under the threat that his relatives would be killed, the man was forced to donate a kidney to Gradu Cârpaci, being promised 15,000 euros and an apartment in Timișoara.
The operation took place in a hospital in Freiburg, but after the intervention, the victim received nothing and remained under the control of the Cârpaci family. German authorities, together with DIICOT Timișoara, raided their villa, confiscating relevant evidence. A European arrest warrant has been issued for the two for human trafficking, bodily harm, and other offenses. They are now in police custody and are to be brought before the Timișoara Court of Appeal for the confirmation of the warrant.
