The Mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, presented on Tuesday his plans to transform Calea Victoriei, proposing to reduce the number of traffic lanes and limit the speed to 30-40 km/h.

The purpose of this measure is to increase the economic value of the center of Bucharest, transforming the area from a transit corridor into a space intended for various activities. Ciprian Ciucu explained that a mixed lane will be created in each direction, which will allow easy access by car, but will also promote urban regeneration. The mayor emphasized that this change is part of a broader reform of the mobility paradigm in Bucharest, taking into account the available transport alternatives, such as Magheru Boulevard and the metro. Ciucu highlighted the importance of urban regeneration to attract investments in buildings at seismic risk in the area, arguing that pedestrianization and facilitating car access for boarding and alighting will contribute to increasing the economic value of the area.
