The General Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, has announced the drafting of a new Cultural Strategy for the Municipality of Bucharest for the next ten years. The document seeks to harness the city’s cultural and creative potential through coherent plans, funding programs, and measurable objectives.

The mayor criticized the implementation of the former cultural strategy, which, he said, although it was a good document in theory, was not put into practice and remained “yet another strategy in the City Hall’s attic.”

The new strategy will be translated into concrete programs, some of which will be managed by ARCUB, the cultural institution of the Capital City Hall. Another component will be dedicated to cultural communities and will include funding for projects carried out by them.

The drafting process has already begun through consultations with representatives of more than 12 communities in the field of the arts. ARCUB has also launched an online platform through which Bucharest residents, artists, and interested organizations can submit suggestions and proposals.

Ciucu maintains that comprehensive urban development must also include support for artists and cultural communities, considered essential to the city’s identity and attractiveness.
