The Prosecutor General’s Office sent a man to trial accused of inciting violence against magistrates on Facebook

A man from Bucharest has been sent to trial by the Prosecutor General’s Office, accused of having, in August 2025, publicly urged people, through a Facebook comment, to commit crimes against Romanian magistrates and their families. The case was referred to the Bucharest Sector 6 District Court, which will hear the facts at first instance.

According to prosecutors, the defendant commented on a public post containing extremely violent calls to commit crimes against judges. Through his message, he allegedly supported the idea of resorting to intimidation and illegal actions against magistrates, including in the context of criticism directed at decisions in the judicial system.

“Magistrates, if they have no fear of God, perhaps it would not be a bad thing for some fear to be instilled in them, including the one proposed by (…), as a last resort. I believe that person was a victim of the judicial system if they came to propose such a thing. Will magistrates somehow also be paid for the period of suspension of their activity? If other socio-professional categories proceed similarly, especially military personnel, those subject to the same rules and restrictions?”, he commented on another Facebook user’s post.

Investigators accuse him of publicly inciting the commission of crimes such as violation of domicile, rape, and assault on a judicial officer. The Prosecutor General’s Office states that the message was accessible to the public on the Facebook platform.

Being sent to trial marks the end of the criminal investigation, while the defendant’s guilt will be established by the court. The case is the second recently announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office concerning messages posted on Facebook in August 2025 that allegedly incited violence against magistrates. In the other case, a defendant is accused of calling for the killing of judges and prosecutors.
