On July 16, 2026, a 56-year-old man from the commune of Grădinari, Caraș-Severin County, was fined 12,000 lei by the Animal Protection police for abandoning a large dog on the side of the national road DN 57.

The man had taken the dog in a week earlier, intending to care for it, but later decided to abandon it. The Caraș-Severin County Police Inspectorate reminds that abandoning animals is an offense under Law no. 205/2004, punishable by fines between 3,000 and 12,000 lei.

The police draw attention to the responsibility involved in caring for an animal and encourage finding responsible solutions in cases where someone can no longer care for an animal. Additionally, the police warn that abandoned animals are exposed to major risks, such as dehydration and traffic accidents, emphasizing the importance of not abandoning animals.
