Police in Vâlcea discovered approximately 12 tons of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in the yard of a man from the commune of Oteșani, who was carrying out activities involving the dismantling and disassembly of end-of-life vehicles without authorization.
The inspection was conducted by officers from the Weapons, Explosives and Hazardous Substances Bureau within the Vâlcea County Police Inspectorate, together with representatives of the National Environmental Guard. Twelve partially dismantled vehicles were identified on the property, for which the man was unable to provide supporting documents.
Police also found engines, car batteries and oil filters stored directly on the ground. Some of them showed signs of used-oil leaks. Further checks also showed that the man did not have a contract for the disposal of waste resulting from the activity carried out.
The waste was seized pending further investigation. Police opened a criminal case for offenses related to environmental pollution and improper waste management, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
In addition, the Vâlcea Environmental Guard fined the man 5,000 lei.
