Ludovic Orban, former advisor to Nicușor Dan, urged the president not to hesitate any longer and to appoint a candidate for the position of director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), mentioning that the institution has been operating illegally since July 2023, when Eduard Hellvig resigned. Orban emphasized that, in the context of threats to national security, it is unacceptable for the SRI to be led by a first deputy appointed in 2017. He criticized Nicușor Dan's lack of priority in appointing a new director, stating that, in eight months, no proposal has been made.
Orban insisted on the need for legal and competent leadership at the SRI, asking the president to act without waiting for the coalition's consensus. In a recent interview, Nicușor Dan stated that he hopes to finalize discussions soon for the appointment of the directors of SRI and SIE, highlighting the role of Parliament in the process.
