The former leader of the PSD, Liviu Dragnea, stated that his life has changed dramatically after his release from prison in 2021, claiming that he is facing financial difficulties. Although he was perceived as having considerable material assets, Dragnea insists that he has given them up and that he has nothing left, except for his own person. He mentioned that, although he established a company in the energy sector, he has not managed to achieve anything significant, highlighting the difficulties of doing business in Romania.

Dragnea was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for fictitious hiring at the Teleorman Child Protection Directorate, a sentence pronounced by the High Court of Cassation and Justice. This conviction has profoundly affected his political career and business, and now he complains about the lack of opportunities and the authorities' control over his assets.
