Former Slatina Mayor Minel Prina is to be released on parole after the Ilfov Tribunal definitively admitted, on Friday, his appeal against the rejection of his parole request. Prina was being held at Bucharest-Jilava Penitentiary, where he was serving a four-year-and-six-month prison sentence for influence peddling and complicity in money laundering.
The court overturned the ruling issued by the Bucharest District 4 Court on October 7, 2026, which had rejected the request, and ordered his conditional release from the sentence imposed under the enforcement warrant issued on the basis of the conviction handed down by the Bucharest Tribunal.
Minel Prina had been detained since the end of 2023. He was definitively convicted in the corruption case known as the “Paintings Case,” in which former Slatina mayor and Finance Minister Darius Vâlcov was also convicted.
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate, between 2011 and 2013, Vâlcov allegedly received millions of lei, including through Prina, from businessman Theodor Berna. The money was allegedly paid in connection with construction contracts financed mainly by European funds and won by Tehnologica Radion in Olt County. The contracts were worth more than 78 million lei.
