Dragoș Pîslaru responds to AUR leader George Simion after he accused Romania of being a dictatorship

PNL First Deputy President Dragoș Pîslaru responded to AUR leader George Simion after he accused Romania of being a dictatorship. The response was published on Facebook, amid reports that former pro-Russian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu was stopped in traffic by DIICOT prosecutors.

“In a dictatorship, you don’t get the chance to complain on Facebook that it is a dictatorship. Anyone who breaks the law must face its consequences,” Dragoș Pîslaru wrote.

Earlier, George Simion had reacted on the social network approximately two hours after the prosecutors’ intervention. “Any one of us could be next. Stop the abuses! Romania is a dictatorship!!!!” the AUR leader said.

Călin Georgescu, a former candidate in the November 2024 presidential election, was stopped in traffic on Monday morning and taken in for questioning and searches as part of a DIICOT investigation. According to G4Media sources, the case concerns alleged fraud worth €1.1 million. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are to establish the legal status of those involved.
