The leader of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, stated that he is convinced that the state budget for 2026 will be adopted, despite recent tensions in Parliament caused by the rejection of the PSD amendment regarding the social package. Hunor explained that the debate focuses on funding support for low-income pensioners, proposing a compromise solution that includes a one-time payment and an increase in commitment credits.

He emphasized the moral obligation to help vulnerable pensioners, mentioning that discussions between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labor are essential to ensure the necessary funds. Hunor also acknowledged that the adoption of the budget could lead to a limited increase in the deficit, but he stressed the importance of finding a solution for the most vulnerable. Tensions within the coalition were evident during the debates, with PSD threatening to withdraw from discussions after the rejection of its amendment.
