Before the vote in Parliament, Kelemen Hunor announced that UDMR was holding talks with Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu and that it had signed a political agreement with him. The formation tied its support to respect for minority rights, including support for education in the Hungarian language, as well as ensuring the funds necessary for the functioning of local and cultural institutions.
Hunor also said that UDMR insisted on the swift installation of a government with full powers, after a political crisis lasting more than five months, and identified budget rectification as an urgent matter. The UDMR leader also estimated that Niculescu had high chances of securing investiture, mentioning that discussions to consolidate the majority were still underway.
