UDMR President Kelemen Hunor believes that the future government should assume responsibility for the unified pay law for personnel paid from public funds, instead of postponing its adoption until 2027. The statement concerns one of the important decisions to be made regarding the incomes of public-sector employees.
Kelemen Hunor argues that indexing public-sector salaries would entail a budgetary expense similar to implementing the new law. In the UDMR leader’s view, the difference is that an increase through indexation would not resolve the structural problems in the system.
According to him, maintaining the current mechanism would preserve the imbalances between categories of employees paid from public funds. The new law should provide a unified framework and correct the existing pay discrepancies.
Kelemen Hunor therefore believes that postponing the reform until 2027 is not justified from a budgetary-impact perspective, given that indexation would also require comparable financial resources. The issue is expected to be included in negotiations on the future government’s program and measures.
