The Japanese company JTEKT, one of the largest manufacturers of bearings and automotive components, has announced a gradual closure of its factory in Alexandria, thus affecting the largest employer in Teleorman, with over 800 employees. The decision comes in the context of difficulties in the global market, financial losses, and declining sales.

The management of JTEKT has confirmed that it is considering the option of selling its operations in Europe, taking into account the major changes in the automotive components industry. Decreased demand, the adoption of new technologies, and cost pressures are factors that have influenced this decision. The closure of the factory will take place over the course of a year, and this new wave of layoffs could significantly impact the automotive industry in Romania, already marked by the layoffs announced by Dacia.
