Bosch has officially announced the gradual closure of the Engineering Center in Sofia, affecting approximately 670 employees. Layoffs will begin this year, with 400 employees initially targeted, and the rest will be laid off by 2027.

Dan Lăzărescu, the Bosch representative in Bulgaria, explained that the decision is the result of profound structural changes in the global automotive industry, which is undergoing significant transformation. The restructuring is part of a broader adjustment to global conditions, characterized by high costs and fierce competition, aimed at maintaining long-term competitiveness.

Although the center will close, Bosch will continue to operate in Bulgaria through other subsidiaries, maintaining its activity in the country, where it has been present for over three decades. The restructuring only targets the engineering division, with other activities in Bulgaria expected to continue without changes.

Bosch has also reduced its workforce in Romania, in the context of a slowdown in car production in Germany and the transition to electric vehicles.
